Vitamin C

Important things you should know

You should take a supplement of 500mcg of folic acid for at least one month before conceiving and for the first three months of pregnancy which significantly reduces the likelihood of a Neural Tube Defect (NTD) such as spina bifida.

According to the World Health Organisation a woman's diet alone during pregnancy will not give her sufficient iron. An adult woman needs 18mg of iron per day. For a pregnant woman, this requirement almost doubles, increasing to27mg of iron per day.
